Overview

For the second annual TEDxLilly, we transformed the main Lilly Corporate Center auditorium into a full TEDx branded experience. With the theme of "Reinvention" we designed the visual presence for the event including custom banners, brochures, speaker portraits, staging, photo booth props, and two interactive sculptures.

For the visual design, we gathered inspiration from hexagonal structures found in nature. To further reinvent ourselves, we incorporated lots of color from Lilly's brand colors in addition to the classic TEDx colors of red, black, and white. For the stage, we collaborated with Brett Harbour Studio who constructed 42 white hexagons which were arranged in layers in the foreground and background of the stage. We then backed alternating hexagons with vellum so that color changing LED lighting would illuminate the pieces transitioning through different color pallets throughout the event. In addition to the stage props, we created custom portraits for each speaker to be used in the slide show as well as 18 banners vignetting the stage.

Outside the auditorium, we designed banners, brochures, hexagonal name tags, lanyards, and two interactive experiences. For a part of one of our designs, Brett Harbour Studio fabricated a 6' tall steel X to welcome guests at the top of the mezzanine where we had a station to create magnetic LED "throwies" which guests placed on the sculpture and other magnetic things throughout the event. We also had another interactive sculpture consisting of over 300 interlocking hexagon pieces that attendees wrote on in response to a prompt. Using the custom notching cut into each shape, participants assembled the pieces together into a sculpture which grew over the course of the day.
